Wild & Stocked Trout
Our local wade fishing trips give anglers the opportunity to enjoy the freestone (non-dam controlled) streams that surround the Boone, Banner Elk, and Blowing Rock areas. Depending on the time of year, our fisheries offer a variety of angling opportunities — from chasing large, stocked trout to hunting for wild trout on some of North Carolina's most pristine streams.
Much of where you fish will be determined by factors such as the season of your trip, water flows, and what is happening with our local trout populations. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced angler, our guides can cater each trip to fit your needs.
A North Carolina fishing license is required for this trip.

Wild Trout
Less than an hour drive from our fly shop into Tennessee, you'll find excellent wade fishing opportunities on creeks that are largely untouched. These waters hold some of the most beautiful wild rainbows and browns you'll lay your eyes on.
If you've done a lot of wade fishing in North Carolina and are looking to explore new water, we'd be pleased to show you these exceptional sections of river. This is backcountry trout fishing at its finest — secluded, scenic, and full of wild fish.

Blue Ribbon Trout
Virginia's blue ribbon trout waters offer some of the finest wade fishing in the southern Appalachians. The Upper Holston section and surrounding streams hold healthy populations of wild brown and rainbow trout in beautiful, less-pressured water that fishes well throughout the year.
These streams reward anglers who enjoy reading water and making precise presentations. Whether you're working a dry fly through a riffle or drifting nymphs through a deep pool, our guides know these waters intimately and will put you on fish. This is an outstanding option for experienced anglers looking to explore Virginia's best trout water.

Trophy Trout • Drift Boat
Float trips put you on a tailwater — a dam-controlled river with consistent water flow that fishes great year round. The Watauga and South Holston Rivers are two of the premier trout destinations in the Blue Ridge Mountain region, and both are within a short drive of the Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk areas.
This style of fly fishing is as comfortable as it gets. On a float trip the need to wade is eliminated, which also makes it an excellent option for those with mobility concerns. Even in times of heavy rainfall or extreme heat, these tailwaters continue to fish well — don't let the weather ruin your fishing trip!

Smallmouth Bass • Drift Boat
Looking for something beyond trout? Our smallmouth bass float trips on the New River in North Carolina and Virginia and the Holston River out of Kingsport, Tennessee deliver some of the hardest-fighting freshwater fish pound for pound in the Appalachian region. We target smallmouth on both fly and conventional gear, so whether you're throwing streamers, poppers, or crawfish patterns, there's an approach that fits your style.
If you've done a lot of trout fishing and want to see something different, this is a wonderful option. For anglers wanting to fly fish for smallmouth, we do recommend some prior experience — fly fishing for smallmouth requires longer, more accurate casts to be productive.
The best time to book a smallmouth float is March through September. Which river we fish depends on the time of year and how the water is fishing. Floating by drift boat allows you to cover miles of prime smallmouth water in a single day, with outstanding sight-fishing opportunities for aggressive fish that will test your tackle and your nerves. The topwater action during the warmer months is second to none.
A North Carolina, Virginia, or Tennessee fishing license is required depending on the river.

Everything you need to know before booking
Group size: We can accommodate more than 2 people on a trip — just call or email with questions.
Food & drinks: Trips do not include lunch or snacks. Please be prepared to bring your own food on your trip.
Gratuity: Trip rates do not include guide gratuity. Guides greatly appreciate gratuity and will work to ensure your satisfaction. If you have questions regarding gratuity protocol, feel free to ask.
A 50% deposit is required to book your trip and secure your date. The remaining balance is due on the day of your trip.
Changes in the number of people on the trip are also subject to the cancellation policy outlined below.
Weather cancellations are at the guide's discretion. If we feel the trip won't be productive or safe, we will cancel and either reschedule or refund your deposit. A chance of rain is not considered "unsafe weather."
If conditions are deemed unsafe on the date of your trip, you can reschedule or receive a full deposit refund. Reasons for weather cancellations include unsafe water levels, lightning, and thunder.
